AN Accra Circuit Court, presided over by Sedina abgemava, yesterday granted bail to Paapa nyaba, a policeman facing trial for allegedly kissing an eight-year-old girl at Pokuase near accra.
He was hauled before the court for indecent assault but denied the offence. The accused person was accordingly granted bail in the sum of GH?2,000 with one surety.
The court also ordered that Nyaba should be referred to the psychiatric hospital where he was previously treated and discharged.
Prosecuting, Detective Inspector Kofi Atimbire, told the court that the victim?s mother is the complainant while the accused person resides at Pokuase Mayera in Accra.
Prosecution said in February, this year at about 2:30 pm, the complainant asked the victim to go and buy groundnut from a nearby shop.
Nyaba was also buying biscuit from the same shop.
Nyaba was said to have placed his hand on the victim?s shoulders, asked her if her father was a policeman and also demanded her name.
Detective Inspector Atimbire said suddenly the accused person grabbed the victim?s cheek with his two hands and kissed her passionately on her lip and told the victim that she was beautiful.
He said the victim later informed her mother about the issue.
Nyaba was accosted by people in the community and handed over to the Police at Tesano but denied the offence during interrogation.
Nyaba is expected to reappear in court on June 12.
