Nigerian born Ghanaian award-winning weight-lifting sensation Majertie Fetrie passed away in the early hours of Saturday, a press release has said.
The weightlifter who naturalized to represent Ghana in the 2006 Commonwealth Games passed away in his native home, in Nigeria.
His death came a month after suffering a stroke that immobilized him over the period.
Fetrie won a medal for Ghana in the 2006 Commonwealth Games held in Melbourne, Australia, and later became the coach of Ghana’s national weightlifting team, before relocating to Nigeria.
In 2006 however, the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) banned Fetrie for taking banned substances during the African championship in Morocco that year. Enditem
