The Ghanaian youth has been asked to take advantage of government’s efforts to promote the agricultural sector to enhance his personal and societal development.
“The ministry of agriculture has a policy to get people involved in farming. We therefore want to encourage the youth and those who are seeking for jobs to take advantage of the policy which is operational at the Assembly level,” Mr. Ian Quaye said.
Mr Quaye, who is the Administrative Protocol Officer of the Tema Development Company (TDC),was presenting 20 Wellington Boots and 13 Spraying Machines to the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) towards the 2017 National Farmers’ day celebrations.
He said, “We know that presently, government wants to widen the food basket and the buffer stock, therefore the government will give more priority to farmers and the agricultural sector in order to achieve
that.”
He observed that most young people were not aware of the assistance government gave to farmers and therefore charged the District, Municipal and Metropolitan Assemblies (MMDAs) to educate the public in that regard.
The Director of Human Resources and Administration of the Volta Aluminum Company (VALCO), Mr. Festus Quaidoo, also presented ten
bicycles and accessories to the TMA in support of the Farmers’ day celebrations on behalf of the company.
According to him, “VALCO has been involved in the celebrations since its inception, and we are happy to celebrate our farmers who have played a major role in Ghana’s socio-economic development.”
He said VALCO would continue to support agriculture in order for it to provide jobs for the youth, adding that, “I believe farmers’ day is in the right direction as hard working farmers, they need to be recognized.”
