At its meeting in Accra on Thursday, organized labor agreed on a roadmap for the intended action to press home the demands in the face of hikes in tariffs, taxes and fuel prices.
The unions agreed to undertake demonstrations and picketing at national and regional capitals on January 19 -20 and begin a countrywide strike two days later.
The decision follows the announcement of a 59.2 percent rise in electricity tariff across board and 67.2 percent increase in water by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission as well as the18-27 percent upward review in the prices of petroleum products.
The unions have also endorsed the wearing and display of red bands at workplaces from next Thursday.
A meeting between organized labor and government has ended inconclusively but the government says it is still open to dialogue over the concerns raised by the unions. Enditem
