Youth Olympic gold medalist, Martha Bissah, has gained $32,000 educational scholarship in the Norfolk State University in Virginia for a year.
It is expected to be the turning point in the young athlete’s future after her scholarship by President John Mahama last year was botched. Bissah won Ghana’s first ever gold medal at the youth Olympic Games in Nanjin, China in 2014.
Bissah’s scholarship was made possible by former Ghana Athletics Association boss George Lutterodt who took to his Facebook page to announce the deal.
“The scholarship is worth close to USD 32,000.OO per annum. We thank God that those who said she was associating herself with the wrong people who had nothing to offer her have been proved spectacularly wrong.
“Two other universities are also offering her Track and Field scholarships to arrive by next week. The Coaches in the USA have promised to turn her into a world Champion in time. In life don’t give up on your dreams, the sky’s the limit”, he wrote.
The 18-year-old failed to qualify for the ongoing Rio Olympics and has been tipped to shine in Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
