Ghana’s only female boxer at the ongoing Commonwealth Games, Birmingham 2022, Ornella Sathoud has suffered a points loss in her first outing. The US based boxer came up against Kerry Davis of England and lost 2-3 on the cards.
Ornella Sathoud who competes in the Middleweight category (75 kg ) is the first female boxer to view for honours at the Commonwealth Games. She also annexed Bronze at the Olympic Qualifiers in Dakar, Senegal in February 2020.
Following the loss, the Ghanaian who holds a PhD in Analytical Chemistry could be effectively out of the competition pending any technical alterations.
Ranked 10th in the World and 3rd in Africa, the academic luminary and pugilist can, regardless of the defeat, hold her head up high and anticipate brighter days ahead.
Up next would be Joshua Quartey and Joseph Commey who would be squaring up against Nigeria’s Adeyinka Benson and Kiribati’s Botoro Aaree respectively.
Ghanaian boxing fans can’t wait to celebrate their first win.
