The Rent Control Department in Ghana has introduced a new digital platform to overhaul the traditional rental service system.
The platform, accessible at rentcontrol.mwh.gov.gh, will enable landlords and tenants to manage critical rental tasks online, such as property registration, complaint filing, and dispute resolution, eliminating the need for in-person visits to Rent Control offices.
A standout feature of the platform is its support for digital signing of tenancy agreements.
This advancement will streamline rental processes, reduce paperwork, and ensure secure and transparent record-keeping.
Additionally, the platform will list available rental properties online, allowing tenants to find accommodation more easily and bypass traditional intermediaries like agents.
Dr Prince Hamid Armah, Deputy Minister for Works and Housing, highlighted the platform’s significance during its launch.
“Today, we celebrate more than just a technological advancement; we are inaugurating a transformative leap in how public services are delivered in Ghana,” Dr. Armah remarked.
He expressed his commitment to extending these benefits nationwide, positioning Ghana as a leader in public service innovation across Africa.
The digital platform, developed in collaboration with Supertech Limited, is now operational in 15 offices across 11 regions.
Dr Armah emphasized that this initiative aims to level the playing field for all Ghanaians, ensuring equitable access to fair and efficient rental services regardless of location or socio-economic status.
Chief Rent Manager Twum Ampofo described the launch as a milestone for the Rent Control Department. “This is a defining moment. We have long struggled with manual processes that led to delays and frustrations.
This digital platform provides the efficiency and accessibility that Ghanaians deserve,” Mr Ampofo said.
The new system aims to reduce the necessity of physical office visits, particularly benefiting those in remote areas.
Mr. Ampofo emphasized that the platform would facilitate peaceful landlord-tenant relations and broaden access to Rent Control services.
He urged the public to embrace the new system, noting, “This platform is not just about technology; it’s about making rental services fairer, more efficient, and accessible to all Ghanaians.
It will significantly enhance the rental service experience.
Rev. Stephen Yaw Osei, Chief Director of the Ministry of Works and Housing, underscored the platform’s role in bridging gaps between the department and the communities it serves.
He expressed confidence that the platform would enhance transparency, ensure compliance with rental regulations, and address landlord exploitation.
“This project is about more than just adopting technology; it’s about building a more responsive, accessible, and transparent system.
We encourage everyone to explore this new system and provide feedback as we continue to improve,” Rev. Osei added.
