Ghanaian swimmer Harry Stacey saw his Olympic journey cut short as he exited Tuesday’s men’s 100m Freestyle competition at the Paris 2024 Games.
Competing as a debutant with a wildcard entry, Stacey failed to advance beyond the heats, finishing seventh in his group with a time of 51.12 seconds.
His performance fell short of his personal best and the qualifying standard needed for the semi-finals, extinguishing Ghana’s hopes for its first Olympic swimming medal.
Despite expressing confidence ahead of the event, Stacey struggled to meet the demanding expectations of the Olympic stage.
Now, Ghana focuses on other athletes, including swimmer Joselle Mensah and high jumper Rose Yeboah, as the nation aims to surpass its solitary bronze medal achievement from the Tokyo Olympics.
The men’s 4x100m relay team also carries high expectations in this pursuit.
