Ghanaian para-athlete Zinabu Issah secured a gold medal at the 2025 World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Marrakech with a record-breaking discus throw of 29.25 meters in the F57 category.

The remarkable performance surpasses her previous best of 26.66 meters set at the same event in 2024 and demonstrates significant progress from her 24.39-meter qualifying throw for the Paris 2024 Paralympics.

Issah’s latest achievement cements her status as one of Africa’s top para-athletes and strengthens her position for upcoming international competitions, including the 2025 World Championships and 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The consistent improvement in her marks over consecutive seasons suggests the Ghanaian thrower is reaching peak form at a crucial time in her career.

Para-athletics experts note that Issah’s technical refinement and increased power generation have contributed to her steady distance gains. Her success follows intensified training under Ghana’s national para-athletics program, which has invested in specialized coaching and equipment for its Paralympic hopefuls. With this performance, Issah not only raises expectations for her future events but also inspires other Ghanaian athletes with disabilities to pursue competitive sports.

The Marrakech Grand Prix serves as an important qualifier for major championships, and Issah’s dominant showing positions her as a potential medal contender on the global stage. Athletics officials anticipate her continued progression could challenge the current F57 world record of 30.49 meters as she prepares for the next Paralympic cycle.
