Pressure is mounting on selected state agencies to lubricate the campaign machinery of President John Dramani Mahama to prevent it from rusting.
Veritable evidence shows that state agencies are underwriting campaign expenses of President Mahama who is waging an ostentatious and grandiose campaign.
The latest of such agencies to be served official correspondence demanding money, and which has obliged, is the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC).
The agency?s Deputy Director in charge of Finance coming under what appears like persistent pressure from Volunteers For Mahama (VFM), a wing of the Mahama campaign, has approved an amount of GH?4000 (?40million) through the agency?s Ecobank accounts.
VFM, one of the plethora of groupings engaged in the John Mahama for President bid, and recipient of the above quoted money, wrote to the CEO of GIPC in a correspondence dated 12th November 2012 headed, ?Appeal For Sponsorship.?
National Coordinator of VFM Mawutor Agbavitor requested support for their activities which he noted encompassed community based activism and what he described as awareness actions.
Describing the grouping as a sustainability volunteer advocacy movement, Mawutor Agbavitor noted that it sought ?to build a strong, healthy, effective and vibrant network connecting volunteers of all ages with opportunities to seek and work in order to get His Excellency John Dramani Mahama elected as President of the Republic of Ghana to Advance the Better Ghana Agenda?.
The VFM is one of the groups distributing cars to students, mostly ladies, on the campuses of universities.
Some of the Hyundai i10 cars, popularly called ?Atta Kamboo?, are coming from them.
The letter pointed out, ?It is our aim to galvanise support and accelerate volunteerism in getting His Excellency John Dramani Mahama elected as President in 2012 general election.?
It stated, ?Please forward your kind donations to our office at East Legon near Merklin Hotel or call the contacts below.?
The contact persons whose contact telephone numbers are provided are Mawutor, Emmanuel, Charles and Simon.
It is instructive that in his minute to a certain Matilda of the Accounts Department ordering the donation of GH?4000, the Ag DD/Fin stated, ?For peace sake, Let us donate GH?4000 dated 13th November 2011.?
It would appear that the VFM, like other groupings, has been pestering state agencies to donate, as a matter of compulsion, towards the John Mahama for President campaign machine.
There are numerous groupings engaged in the political campaign for John Mahama?s bid for the presidency; some of them called ambassadors, and whose fleet of cars is noticeable on the streets of Accra.
It is instructive that the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the GIPC, George Aboagye, is the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Ahanta West Constituency.
He is still at post in disregard of the legislation that public officials, especially heads of agencies, seeking parliamentary seats vacate their positions.
