The GJA has appointed George-Ramsey Benamba, the chief editor at the Ghana News Agency (GNA), as committee chairman.

The announcement, made through a press release dated July 30, also named the other distinguished members of the committee:

Jamila Akweley Okertchiri, Editor, Daily Guide Network

Loretta Vanderpuye, Regional Director, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation Obonu FM/TV

Joana Afua Mensah, News Editor, United Television (UTV)

Isaac Yeboah, Editor, Myjoyonline.com

William A. Asiedu, Head of News – Onua Group (Media General)

Nana Kofi Acquah, International Photojournalist

Michael Quaye, Deputy News Editor, Daily Graphic

Isaac Nuamah Yeboah, News Director, Atinka Media Village

The committee, a key pillar in the awards process, will meticulously evaluate entries across 36 award categories. Their discerning decisions will determine the deserving recipients for this year’s ceremony, scheduled to be held at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) on September 28, 2024.

A notable addition to this year’s awards is the Akoto Ampaw Award for Democracy & Good Governance, introduced last year to honour the late legal practitioner’s commitment to media freedom.

Among the highly coveted awards are the P.A.V. Ansah Journalist of the Year, Best Female Journalist of the Year, Most Promising Journalist of the Year, and Best Student Journalist of the Year.

Celebrating its 75th anniversary, a significant milestone in the history of the GJA, the association anticipates a grand event with national and international dignitaries in attendance.

The return of MTN Ghana as a sponsor has further bolstered preparations for the event. The GJA is calling on Corporate Ghana to join hands in supporting and ensuring the success of this year’s awards, underscoring the collective responsibility we all share in promoting excellence in the media industry.
