Mr Simon Asare, a sports and entertainment writer at the Ghana News Agency, has been nominated for the “Story of the Year” at the Sport+ Positive Awards 2024 in the United Kingdom (UK).
Mr. Asare, who is a member of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), was one of three journalists from around the world who made the final shortlist for the “Story of the Year” award.
His shortlisted story, titled ” Saving the Game: A Clarion Call for Sports Associations to Sign Onto UN’s Sports or Climate Action Framework,” investigated the effects of climate change on sports.
The story drew the attention of policy stakeholders, notably in Ghana, to join the UN’s Sports for Climate Action Framework in order to achieve global climate objectives.
The story revealed fresh details about how extreme weather impacts player performance and health, limiting their longevity in the game.
The winner of the “Story of the Year” category would be announced during an awards ceremony at the Kia Oval in London, UK, on Tuesday, October 8, 2024.
