The Gold Fields Ghana Foundation officially handed over the newly refurbished Tarkwa & Abosso (T&A) Stadium to the National Sports Authority (NSA) in a ceremony held on Friday, August 16, 2024.
The renovation of the T&A Stadium in Tarkwa, Western Region, began four years ago and was completed in June this year.
The project, which cost US$16.2 million, transformed the facility from a 400-seat football park into an 8,000-plus-seater world-class stadium capable of hosting international matches.
Razak Abubakar, Executive Secretary of the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation, confirmed the renovation’s completion and highlighted the significance of the investment.
“The facility existed before we started the renovation, and since the NSA managed it previously, it is only fair that they continue to do so with support from the Tarkwa Municipal Assembly,” Abubakar said.
The Gold Fields Foundation assured that the management of the T&A Stadium would differ from that of other sporting facilities in the country, emphasizing its commitment to ensuring its proper upkeep and use.
Medeama SC, a Ghana Premier League side, will utilize the newly refurbished stadium for their home games.
