As part of measures towards economic integration and development, Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe State has in the past three and half years constructed roads and drainages in some parts of the state worth N2.8 billion naira.

The governor said the roads were meant room link the rural communities with the urban centers? towards promoting the movement of people and goods from the rural areas to the urban centers.


Gaidam stated this this in Damaturu yesterday while addressing APC supporters and members who converted to show their solidarity to the governor and APC ruling party in the 2925 elections.


He said, “consequently, we are constructing a total of 911.9 kilometers of intra and inter city road networks with full asphalt overlay and 145.6 kilometers of drainages”.


“As you are aware, Potiskum-Jakusko-Gashua-Kaliyari-Bayamari-Geidam, Bayamari-Yunusari-Jaji Maji-Kanasuwa-Bulanfa-Tetteba-Gingir-Karage and Moiduwa-Gadaka and Gashua-Yusufari roads have been completed”, Gaidam said.


Similarly, the governor added that “work is on going on tran sahel route, Nguru-Machina, Damaturu-Bunu Yadi-Magza and Gadaka-Godowoli roads”.


He however added that some of these roads are under the responsibility of the federal government pointing out that in view of the dangers posed by these roads due to the their levels of dilapidation, ” we had to take over and reconstruct them to reduce the sufferings of our people who are the main users of these roads. Let me also add that the township roads in the major towns and cities of the state have been provided with 2,846 electric poles of Solar Powered? Streets Light covering a distance of 712 kilometers at the cost of N2.948 billion naira.

The governor said also that his government had constructed? a total of 1,256 housing units for the civil servants and other citizens of the state? to address the lingering problem of acute shortage of housing accommodation in the state.

He noted that the houses are being allocated on the basis of owner-occupier policy with a discount of? 1.65% of the total cost. While in area of healthcare delivery services, his administration has continued with its policy? of free treatment for children under the age if five, pregnant women and victims of accident.


According to him, the state government had also built an ultra modern 200 beds hospital in Damaturu? and provided it with furniture, staff quarters and medical equipment.

He said similarly, the Sani Abtcha Specialist Hospital Damaturu? and General Hospitals in Jakusko, Bunu Yadi and Damagum have been rehabilitated and provided with modern medical equipment and essential drugs among others.
