The Deputy Minister of Information Pius Enam Hadzide has expressed disgust at what he has described as insensitive and partisan politicization that has characterized discussions of the Menzgold saga and has reiterated government’s earlier expression of sympathy with customers and clients of the embattled menzgold company.
Mr. Hadzide in an interview, expressed shock at the position adopted by the NDC that H. E the President ought to be held responsible for the menzgold saga stating that the President could not be held liable for the for the conduct of a private business in which he had no interest or played any part in.
“The argument that the President appeared in a picture with NAM1, a picture that was taken during a courtesy call to the Jubilee House by a CAF/GFA delegation led by Mr. Ahmad Ahmad to discuss football related matters is proof of the President’s endorsement and accounts for why customers invested with menzgold is untenable and at best an insult to the emotional response of clients and workers of MenzGold”, he stated.
The NDC in a press conference yesterday led by the party’s Communication Officer Sammy Gyamfi alleged that, government and for that matter President Akufo-Addo cannot absolve him of the blame in the events that has culminated into the current situation customers of the embattled company find themselves.
But Hon. Pius Enam Hadzide in refuting the claims of the NDC said, government has rather offered leadership and supported all state agencies clothed with authority and responsibility to act without fear or favour in all matters under their purview.
“From football administration to illegal mining, through to banking and financial sectors among others, relevant state agencies have been empowered and supported to crack the whip; a clear break from the past”, Mr. Hadzide added.
Mr. Hadzide however called for calm as relevant agencies are taking steps to resolve the matter.
“Government remains focused in resolving the matter knowing that security agencies, having now received reports from customers of menzgold that they have been defrauded, are employing all state powers to find the accused persons, investigate allegations and ensure that the law takes it full course” Mr. Hadzide reiterated.
