The Deputy Minister of Health, Hon Tina Gifty Mensah together with the CEO of Ambulance Service, Professor Ahmed N. Zacharia met a delegation from NPP Germany Branch led by the National Chairman, Rev Alex Acheampong in Germany. The delegation was briefed on the move by the NPP Government to purchase 200 First Class Ambulances from Germany to support the operations of the Ghana Ambulance Service.
The Deputy Minister of Health, Hon Tina Gifty Mensah in her statement indicated that her Ministry together with the Ambulance Service has already done a comprehensive Feasibility studies to ensure that Ghana Ambulance Service gets First Class Ambulances to serve Ghanaians with excellent Emergency Services. She added that “recent accidents and disasters happening in Ghana calls for the need for government to take immediate steps to purchase additional Ambulances to augment the existing fleet to save the lives of accident victims on time”.
She revealed that her Ministry among other things have outline strategies to alleviate the ailing Emergency Service. They include: procurement of new ambulances to argument the current fleet and open more Ambulance Service Stations in the country; upgrade and construct new facilities at the Paramedic and Emergency Care Training Schools to scale up scope of training; Procurement of equipment and upgrade of the NAS Emergency Dispatch Centre to improve the emergency toll free line 193 and the procurement of medical equipment and training materials to enhance training and support for capacity building to improve quality care.
She further asserted that “no life should be lost because of the absence of Ambulance vehicles”. She reiterated that the NPP government led by H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is committed to ensure that Ghanaians get the best of healthcare delivery.
