Dr. Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, the government spokesperson on governance and security, has accused the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of pursuing a campaign to undermine the credibility of the Electoral Commission (EC).
His remarks came during a discussion on Joy Prime following the NDC’s “Enough is Enough” demonstration, which protested alleged discrepancies in the 2024 voter register.
Boakye-Danquah emphasized that the Electoral Commission had made the Voters’ Register accessible to all political parties through a limited voter exhibition process.
He urged political parties to remain vigilant during this exercise rather than blaming the EC post-election and resorting to protests.
“The NDC has had a clear agenda since the beginning of the year: to denigrate the EC, to assert that it lacks credibility, and to create chaos while claiming they won’t accept the voters’ register,“ he asserted.
He expressed confidence that the EC would address any discrepancies in the voter register before the upcoming elections.
He noted that provisions exist at polling stations to ensure voters can verify their registration status.
The NDC staged a protest against the EC on September 17, 2024, with its leadership directing regional offices to participate.
The party raised alarms about the provisional voters’ register, citing significant discrepancies, including allegations of inflated voter rolls at various polling stations.
The NDC contends that these issues are part of an orchestrated effort by the EC to manipulate the December 7 elections in favour of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
