As part of NDC 2012 manifesto promise to improve accessibility to major centres of population, production and tourism, the government is to invest one billion in road infrastructure development across the country in the next three years to accelerate economic development, President Mahama has announced. The President said this during his recent tour of the Eastern Region.

Part of the facility would go into the provision of a super highway linking Accra to Kumasi to reduce travelling time so as to avoid the drudgery commuters had to endure on that stretch of road.

Government had agreed with a transactions advisor to embark on the Accra-Kumasi superhighway project under public-private partnership basis.

Toll booths would be erected at sections of the two-carriage super-highway to enable the government to recoup what would be invested in the project.
