Govt challenged to invest in the local companies

The Government of Ghana has been called upon to consider putting in place strategies that would help to create more business opportunities for the local companies that ply their trade in all sectors of the economy. 

The move; if carefully looked into by the government will go a long way to expose and strengthen the local companies to excel and continue to contribute immensely help boost the economy of the country.

The Director of Geoquaye Company Limited, a Kumasi based Electrical and Mechanical company which deals in the supply and services of Plants, Generators and other equipment’s to companies in the oil and gas, mining as well as telecommunication industries, Mr. George Neequaye Amon, made this appeal in an exclusive interview Today last week in Kumasi.

According to him, the government should give much concentration to both the emerging and existing private local companies in the country by creating the platforms that would strengthen and build their capacity with regards to their specialization.

This, he mentioned as organizing seminars, forums and workshops by the sector ministry and its various agencies to help boost knowledge in their area as well as assist them with soft loans to expand their businesses.

Mr. Neequaye who also doubles as the Chief Technical Officer of the company call for the need for the government to invest into individuals who are noted to be talented in an area which would help create more job opportunities for the large unemployment rate of the country stressing that such companies must be given the priority of embarking on projects that is worth national interest.

Giving an account of the recent Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) which was held in Houston, Texas in the United States of America where his company had the chance to participate under the joint supervision of the Commercial Service Department of the United States of America’s Embassy in Accra and the Government of Ghana through the Ministry of Energy, he expressed satisfaction over the exercising saying it was very educative and worth attending.

“My company since its establishment in September 1996 and registered as a limited liability company achieved its goal of initiating and securing business partnership for the supply and sale of our products by getting the opportunity to meet different investors who have expressed their readiness to partners with us for big investment projects in the country,” he noted.

He commended the organizers of this year’s Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) especially the Ghanaian coordinators for their efforts to make the trip a successful one which was aimed at giving some of the local companies the opportunities to explore for more business links.

Touching on the absence of a stand to showcase Ghana’s oil to the rest of the world, the director of the Kumasi based electric company called on the government and its various partners to consider putting in place plans that promote Ghana’s Oil and Gas sector in future events.

He added that his company as part of its contribution to the society recently donated some items worth thousands of Ghana cedis to the Kumasi Children’s Home, changed all the chalk boards of the Kwame Nkrumah University Primary School as well as trained a lot of individuals who had no electrical background.
