Civil servant in Benue state who have lamented the non payment of salaries which they said put them through hardship during the festive period, are afraid that they may not be able to pay up their children’s fees for the next term.
A staff of the Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development, Mr. Igbana Jime, who spoke to our correspondent said he had given up on the thought of his four kids returning to school this term since he is yet to receive his salary which is being owed up to five months.
“I don’t know what to do with my children. The four of them will have to resume next week but there is nothing to even pay their fees not to talk of sending them to school. As we are talking, I am yet to receive my August salary, I have not been paid for five months and nobody knows when to expect any kobo”, He lamented.
Persecond news investigation reveals that civil servants in the state have not being paid salaries for four months while primary school teachers who had earlier downed tools last year for eight months, are also been owed five months.
In similar vein the staff of the cleaning company in – charge of cleaning the government house have also threatened to go on strike if they are not paid their four months salary been owed.
According to one of them who spoke to our correspondent on account of anonymity, they were yet to be paid their monthly stipends as their contractor has not been paid to enable him pay them.
Meanwhile our correspondent has reliably gathered from undisclosed sources that the state governor is planning to approach the state House of Assembly for the approval of another five billion Naira bond request to enable him pay salaries before handing over in May.
