Mighty Jets could not hold onto their slender lead at Berekum to prevent being relegated as a late strike from Chelsea ended their premiership life.
Though Nuru Sulley had given them the lead in the 74th minute, Chelsea’s Abdul Basit struck on the ninetieth minute mark to deny the Tudu side victory.
Bechem United also failed to take advantage of Berekum Arsenlas heavy defeat to Hearts of Oak as they lost 0-1 to New Edubiase. They will therefore join Jets and Wassaman as they make the painful journey back into the division one league.
On a day that all sixteen clubs played to their maximum best, goals were being scored in succession in Accra as Hearts of Oak beat Arsenals 4-0. Goals from Osei Bonsu, Mahatma Otoo, and an own goal ensured that Hearts ended the league on a bright note.
Berekum Chelsea who were seeking top four finish to at least fine tune themselves in their future assignments in Africa failed to win against Jets as the Tudu side had their eyes fixed on premiership football next season. Though Jets took the lead, Chelsea never relented in their pursuit of at least a draw.
In their constant pursuit, Abdul Basit finally got the equalizer and it turned out to be a huge service to their Berekum brothers as Arsenals despite losing 0-4 to Hearts in Accra were deemed safe from relegation.
Ashanti Gold placed second on the league table after defeating Ebusua Dwarfs away from home. Two goals from Yakubu Mohammed ensured that the “aboakese” lads made certain their position on the league log. Hearts of Oak placed third after their emphatic win while Medeama SC, despite losing 0-1 at Wa against All Stars placed fourth.
In the coronation game, Kumasi Asante Kotoko had tough competition from Tema Youth as they recorded just a slender win against the Tema based side. A goal in the second half from Richard Yeboah was enough to ensure that the league ended on a victorious note for the fabulous side.
In other games, Aduana Stars played one all draw with Liberty Professionals at the Agyemang Badu park while then already relegated Wassaman beat Heart of Lions 1-0 to end the league on a high.
