GPL WK5 Preview: Kotoko, Great Olympics look to maintain unbeaten start

Ghana Premier League

The 2021/22 Ghana Premier League (GPL) since its commencement has witnessed some dazzling display of football with 90 goals scored thus far.

Match-week five continues this weekend with Asante Kotoko who have won all four matches continuing their quest to maintain an unbeaten start when they travel to Aiyinase to face Karela United.

The Porcupine Warriors did the double over Karela United last year having stunned them 2-0 in their own backyard and beat them 2-1 in the corresponding fixture.

Kotoko would certainly be the favourite going into the clash on Sunday and the likes of Isaac Oppong and Samuel Boateng would be looking to continue their blistering form for the Porcupine Warriors.

Accra Great Olympics who are also unbeaten in the league would take a trip to Sogakope to face bottom-placed West African Football Academy (WAFA), who shockingly is yet to record a win this season.

The ‘Dade’ Boys did the double over the Academy Lads last season, especially handing WAFA a shocking 3-2 defeat at the Red Bull Arena.

WAFA would be looking to avenge their shock loss last season and also target their first win of the season.

King Faisal would host 10th placed Medeama FC, after succumbing to a 2-0 defeat against Berekum Chelsea last weekend. The “Insha Allah” Boys would be looking to bounce back from their first loss of the season.

Dreams FC who scored the highest number of goals this season (10) and conceded the most (8) would lock horns with Bechem United at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park in Bechem. The last time the two met was in May 2021, when Dreams FC beat Bechem United by 2-1 at the Theatre of Dreams in Dawu.

Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has been red-hot for the “Believers” this season having scored four goals and would be looking to continue his excellent start.

Eleven Wonders remain the only side yet to score a goal this season and would have to get their scoring boots on when they face Elmina Sharks.

Eleven Wonders would be looking to create some magic to enable them to earn their first win of the season.

Legon Cities have had quite an impressive start this season and would face Aduana Stars in the first match of the week on Friday, while Bibiani Gold Stars FC who suffered a loss against Elmina Sharks would go into the game against Accra Lions to keep their hopes high on winning the title.
Hearts of Oak’s game against Berekum Chelsea has been postponed due to their engagement in the CAF Confederations Cup as they face JS Souara on Sunday.
