The aim of the programme was to get these agents abreast with ongoing customs programs and innovative trade facilitation initiative to enhance and speed up processes within the port communities. In addition, the programme is to enhance service delivery at the port.
The Director of the Tema Port, Jacob Adorkor, said that the purpose of the four week course was to give clearing house agents knowledge about customs functions and also to enable them to deliver quality service to their clients.
The training program was centred on core customs functions including classification, taxation, examination of goods and customs procedures. He also added that the port is going through intensive transformation that aims at enhancing the quality delivery of service to clients.
The acting Deputy Commissioner in charge of policies and programs , Richard Patrick Yawuste, also added that in order to achieve quality service delivery, customs has begun a cleaning out process to sieve out persons who use one customs proficiency certificate for multiple organizations in accordance to the new proficiency for licensing of customs house agents.
The Customs Liaison Manager for West Blue Consulting, Mr. Adedapo Adegoke, took the agents through the Ghana National Single Window programme (GNSW) which is a one stop shop for all trade information and port processes for better, simpler and faster clearance of goods. He also touched on Risk Management as a key component of the Ghana national single window programme.
