As part of the effort to promote healthy lifestyle among Ghanaians across the country, the management and staff of the Greater Accra Regional office of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) have embarked on the health walk dubbed “Health Promotion, Prevention and Wellness “campaign in Accra.
The maiden edition of the health walk fosters a culture of proactive health management and regular physical activity which aligns with the broader objective of enhancing public health and symbolizes also a substantial dedication by the Greater Accra Region of the NHIA towards the welfare of its work force.
The health walk which falls in line with the vision of NHIA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Dacosta- Aboagye which seeks to promote healthy lifestyle started at Ayi Mensah Toll Booth and ended at Peduase Lodge in the Eastern Region as staffs in this regard were taking through aerobic exercise to enhance their fitness level by keep fit instructors.
In an interview with the media shortly after the exercise, the Ag. Regional Director of the Greater Accra Regional Office of NHIA, Madam Patience Danquah urged the public to engage in periodic exercise saying it is a step to keep the body healthy, adding that the Authority will continue to sensitive the citizenry on good health and general wellness and used the occasion to explain to the public about the convenience of using the mobile renewal short code *929# and the My NHIS App.
The Operations Manager, Mr Elliot Asante Apreku stressed the significance of engaging in regular exercise and embracing healthy lifestyle and however stated that the health walk is a crucial step in encouraging a healthier way of living to prevent and manage Non- Communical diseases as members of staff across the regions were also briefed on the health promotion and wellness program.
For her part, the Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO), Madam Lydia Adjei-Tutu called on the general public especially corporate organizations to partner the NHIA in its membership drive and campaign on health promotion prevention and wellness as the country moves towards achieving universal coverage by 2030.
In a related development, traders and residents in Ayi Mensah, Peduase Lodge and its environs were sensitised about the need to embrace healthy lifestyle as part of their normal lives.
