The Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs has declared its intent to crack down on individuals unlawfully declaring themselves as chiefs in the region, warning of imminent actions to restore order and uphold traditional authority.
Led by Acting President Professor Odaifio Welentsi III, the House of Chiefs expressed deep concern over the rising incidence of unauthorized individuals creating new stools and assuming illegitimate leadership roles. They emphasized that this practice has led to chaos and confusion within the Greater Accra Region.
Addressing the issue during a visit by the Greater Accra Regional Security Council, Professor Odaifio Welentsi III underscored the resolve of traditional leaders to confront this challenge decisively.
“As a house and fathers of the land, we have encountered a situation where some individual chiefs arrogate onto themselves powers they do not possess. Some divisional chiefs, priests, and others have been creating new stools and unlawfully taking oaths from individuals who falsely claim to be chiefs. This must cease immediately,” stated Professor Odaifio Welentsi III.
He further condemned the obstructive practice where unauthorized individuals prevent rightful paramount chiefs from ascending to their thrones, citing it as a clear violation of traditional norms and governance.
“These acts of lawlessness have persisted unchecked for too long. The Regional House of Chiefs is committed to rooting out these illegitimate practices,” he affirmed.
The Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs assured the public and stakeholders of their proactive measures to expose and eliminate all illegitimate claims to chieftaincy. They emphasized the importance of upholding traditional authority and ensuring that only duly recognized chiefs assume leadership roles within communities across the region.
