The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDco) says the nationwide blackout experienced Wednesday night almost across the country was as a surge that shutdown generators in the power system, according to preliminary investigations.
A statement released here Thursday signed by Albert Kwesi Quainoo, Head of Public Relations said, “GRIDco announces for the information of the general public that the power outages experienced across the country from last night, was as a result of a surge that shutdown generators in the power system.”
Technical teams in the value-chain, the statement notes, have been working to restore power to affected areas of the country.
The power company however assured the public details of the outage will be communicated upon the completions of preliminary investigations.
“GRIDCo appreciates the inconvenience consumers experienced and will keep the public updated on any developments on the supply situation.
Details of the cause of the outage will be communicated on completion of preliminary investigations,” the statement further observed.
About 70 percent of the West African country was plunged into total darkness Wednesday night around 9.40 pm.
Ghana suffered from a similar fate in January 2016.
