Ghana’s first and only 24 hour sports television channel, GTVSports+ and the sensational Hasaacas Ladies overshadowed competitors in the prestigious maiden edition of the Soccer Achievers Awards night.
Held at the plush Movenpick Ambassador hotel and graced by the industry’s Giants, GTVSports+ swept four (4) awards as Hasaacas Ladies bagged five(5). Accra Hearts of Oak followed with three (3) with their enigmatically nimble footed midfielder Ibrahim Salifu picking the overall best player Award. Other industry players picked single team or individual awards.
GTVSports+ beat a fierce competition from Max TV and Adepa TV to be crowned the soccer media station- television category.
Sports Morning show Queen, Gloria Peprah picked the Soccer Media Personality of year award. CAF commentary gem, Benjamin Willie Graham shrugged off stiff opposition to pick the Commentator of the year.
GTVSports+’s quartet night was etched by the endorsement of the SWAG awardee Mr George Lomotey, the Deputy Director of TV of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), as the Soccer Broadcast Expert in the Special Awards category.
Hasaacas Ladies topped the night’s glamorous spectacle with the Club of the year award with Coach Yusif Basigi and Nana Banyin Eyison picking the Coach and Administrator awards respectfully.
Janet Egyir and Evelyn Badu won the Female and Young female players Awards to make it five for the Hasmal Ladies.

The over 17 awards were categorised into Professional, General and Special blocks. The general category consisted of corporate entities and individuals who have made significant contribution to soccer in Ghana.
The professional category also comprised of the main actors in the sport and both categories were opened to nominations and subsequent voting by the general public and the Board. The Special category also recognized legends of the game and persons with exceptional exhibition of know-how in the area of the sport.
The soccer Achievers awards was on the tag line ‘Celebrating Sportsmanship, Rewarding Excellence’.
The Board chairman of the awards, Mr Neil Armstrong Mortagbe said the Soccer Achievers Awards is in to fill the yawning gap of the lack of recognition for our heros in the industry and also bring all stakeholders to one common stage every year.
The Special guest of Honour was the Executive Chairman of the LOC for the 13th African Games Accra 2023, Dr Kwaku Ofosu-Asare in his keynote address commended the vision and mission of the Soccer Achievers Awards team to merge soccer with Acadamics and Career beyond the game by the actors.
He lauded the initiative where the overall award winner is going to be supported in a school library project, fully funded by partners of the scheme to refurbish and stock the library of a selected community school with the winners name on it.
Dignatries who graced the occasion included former Black Stars legends such as Rev. Osei Kofi, Mohammed Polo, John Mensah and Laryea Kinsgston. Astute football administrators such as the Ghalca Chairman Mr Kudjoe Fianu, Nana Banyin Eyison, Ms Linear Addy and the chairperson of Women’s League Committee Ms Hilary Boateng were in attendance.
