The president, who was speaking in Conakry during a national Islamic conference, urged imams and religious leaders as well as Guinea’s administrators to do everything to ensure religious extremism does not take root in Guinea like in other West African countries.
He said the fight against terrorism will not succeed unless poverty and injustice are defeated in the life of ordinary Guineans.
He said the government will soon launch a massive operation to identify all religious organizations coming up in Guinea, to know the activities of each of them.
“The deviation in the practice and teaching of Islamic faith in Guinea should be fought in all its forms,” the president said.
Elsewhere, Conde urged officials at all levels to work for not only the expansion of Islam in Guinea, but also for other religions practiced in the country such as Christianity and Animism.
Finally, he urged religious leaders in the country to embrace the culture of peace and promote the spirit of tolerance, forgiveness and willingness to live with people of different faiths. Enditem
