The Ghana United Nations Association (GUNA), is calling on the leadership of this nation to be up and standing to defend the peace and security of this nation by all standards, despite their political affiliations, because, Ghana is not for any political party, but for the people.
In a press release copied to Newsghana.com.gh, it stated that, “Having observed critically the bloody clashes on the just ended by-election conducted by the Electoral
Commission of Ghana, to elect a new Member of Parliament for the AYAWASO West Wougon Constituency, owning to the sudden demise of the late Hon. Agyarko from the ruling New Patriotic Party – NPP, the Ghana United Nations Association (GUNA), would like to establish its total displeasure and disappointment at the disgusting occurrences that have up to date endangered many lives of the citizenry in the area.
As an umbrella of the World Federation, and an off-shoot of the UN, which stands to promote Peace, Development and Security in the country, we the leadership and the entire membership, under the auspices of the National President- Hon. Peter Tinganaba Nanfuri, (former IGP and BNI Boss), would want to send a wake-up call to the leadership of this nation to be up and standing to defend the peace and security of this nation by all standards, despite their political affiliations, because, Ghana is not for any political party, but for the people.
Let us not underrate the ability of our people when it comes to unleashing their anger and displeasure politically. It is clear that people follow politics with very strong passions that must be guarded by our party leadership, as far as the peace and security of this nation is concerned.
It should be reminded that, all other countries that are suffering from war and conflict today, all started with small political conflicts, or the other just as we have all witness at the AYAWASO Constituency in Ghana today.
The truth of the matter is that, when such conflicts start and are not dealt with in the proper manner, time, only comes to cover people’s wounds, only to be uncovered later at the list provocation when something little triggers passions.
GUNA: Peace, Security & Development
It is therefore very important that, as a matter of urgency, this AYAWASO issue is really handled with care to ensure that the law is put into practice for total peace to prevail. Let s also note with all seriousness from here that, what happened in AYAWASO, sends a signal to all of us that, Ghana, is after all not a conflict-free or a total peaceful country as we have all believed, and we must therefore ensure that we tighten our security in the country and not to underestimate our people.
It is on this note that the Ghana United Nations Association (GUNA), issues this Press Statement to appeal to our leadership to up-rise to their national responsibility of ensuring that the peace and security of this nation, keep intact, even as we approach the election year come 2020.
The GUNA, would further want to use same opportunity to urge all political party leaderships, their communicators, and all stakeholders to be circumspect in their utterances and deliveries, and exercise lots of restrain on matters like this, so not to heighten tension to further escalate the already unwarranted occurrences in the country.
As a peace seeking organization, we demand deeper investigations into the case of AYAWASO to ensure that the perpetuators of this unlawful act, are finally brought to book to face the full rigors of the law, as we believe that that would help restore peace and sanity in the country. We also extend our concern to our injured brethren and their families, wishing all of them speedy recovery.
GUNA is also calling on the president of the Republic of Ghana, H.E Nana Addo- Dankwa Akufo Addo, to call all the concerned parties to order to safe-guard the walls of this country as far as the peace and security of our people are concerned.
The Law Must Work, GUNA Demands!”
