Gunmen abduct 2 in Burundi’s Bubanza province

Unidentified gunmen Monday night abducted two pastors of the Free Methodist Church at Buringa in Gihanga, Bubanza province, 15 km west of the Burundian capital Bujumbura, Burundi News Agency reported Tuesday.

According to the state-run news agency, the gunmen abducted the two victims at about 20:30 (18:30 GMT) as they were heading home from church activities.

The agency reported that the two victims were taken to Rukoko forest reserve located near Buringa.

Local administration authorities and residents at Buringa have called for the setting up of a military post at Buringa.

They also called for the increase of night patrols on the Bujumbura-Cibitoke road to prevent gunmen’s attacks.

Security has been disrupted several times in villages located near Burundi’s Rukoko natural reserve by ambushes on the road linking Bujumbura to Cibitoke.

Ambushes are often mounted by gunmen who often retreat to the Democratic Republic of Congo’s territory via Rukoko natural reserve. Enditem
