The Nigerian police on Tuesday confirmed that two policemen were kidnapped by gunmen who attacked them while on duty in Nigeria’s oil-rich state of Rivers.
The incident at the town of Ngor in Andoni local government area of the southern state occurred late Monday.
Nnamdi Omoni, the spokesman for Rivers police, told reporters that the details of the kidnap were sketchy.
According to him, the circumstances surrounding the attack were unknown, although an investigation had been launched into the incident. The Ngor area had witnessed previous attacks by kidnappers.
In June, three expatriates working on a construction project were also kidnapped by gunmen. The victims were released later, after several weeks.
