Unknown gunmen killed one person and kidnapped some others in an attack in Nigeria’s northwestern state of Sokoto, the police said on Saturday.
Local police said in a statement that the gunmen, believed to be bandits, killed one people and injured three others during the attack on a town in the headquarters of the Tangaza local government area of the state.
An unspecified number of people were kidnapped as the gunmen shot indiscriminately to scare away residents, the statement said.
“The bandits killed one of the traders… And in the process, carted away foodstuffs and drinks (in a shop),” the statement said.
The motive of the attack is yet unknown, but the police have launched an investigation to unravel that, the statement added.
