Unknown gunmen have invaded the private residence of a member of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Hon. Soji Akinkurolere, representing Okitipupa Constituency I.
The Gunmen numbering about five made their ways into the lawmakers? house at about 9:15 pm along Hospital road, Igo Aduwo Quarters, Ilututitun in Okitipupa local government area of the state and demanded from his aide to see him.
Sources said the gunmen were on a mission to assassinate the State lawmaker and members of his family.
An aide to the lawmaker, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the assassins quietly made their way into the compound after been challenged on who they were looking for at the late hour of the day.
The aide revealed that upon sighting danger, he called the lawmaker since the visitors mentioned to see him but to his surprise cracks-of-Gun-shots rented the air.
The Sporadic Gun shots and brandishing of weapons by the hoodlums immediately forced Hon. Akinkurolere and his family to run and escaped through the backyard for their dear life.
The hoodlums operated in the premises of the building for close to an hour searching for the lawmaker but were disappointed that he had escaped with his family members.
Millions of properties were damaged by the unknown gunmen including vehicles parked at the premises at the lawmaker while the building was riddled with bullets shots.
A resident in Igo Aduwo Quarters, Ilututitun, said that he saw the hoodlums before they entered into the compound of the lawmaker but their mission was not immediately ascertain.
?I was surprised when I saw a man who sat at the front seat of a car came down and was making phone calls.
Immediately he dropped the call he tapped other guys seated at the back seat and they all headed towards the building of Honorable Akinkurolere. The last thing I heard was sporadic gun shots? he said.
Although no family members was ready to comment over the issue and all calls made to the mobile phones of the lawmaker were not successful.
Dailytimes gathered that panic over the incident was believed to have made the lawmakers and his wife refused to pick unknown numbers, a cleaner in the compound disclosed.
Also, Officers of the? Okitipupa Divisional Police Station? were reluctant to talk over the issue and barred our correspondent from seeing the DPO.
But a source in the division quickly pointed the attention of our correspondent to the vehicles belonging to the lawmaker which was parked at the premises of the station.
The Vehicles, a Toyota Dyna truck with registration no Ondo KTP 48 XA and a Red highlander Jeep had registration no Lagos KSD 764 BU with gun shots penetration on its body.
It was also gathered that the case was transferred to the Commands headquarters in Akure.
The Police spokesman in the state, Wole Ogodo confirmed the incident stressing that the case has been transferred to the Criminal Investigation department of the command.
Ogodo said a businessman in Okitipupa was arrested in connection with the incident.
The businessman according to him is giving useful information that might help bring the fleeing hoodlums to book.
All effort to get copies of the statement by this reporter as at press time proves abortive as the officer in charge was not forthcoming.
