Gunshot At Ga Mantse Palace: 1 Injured


There has been fierce gun battle at the Ga Mantse Palace, Sunday May 11, 2014 during a purification ceremony by the people of Ga ahead of the beginning of the Homowo festivities.

A young man was nearly killed when gun shots were fired in the head of a controversy that engulfed the purification ceremony in the palace, resulting in him sustaining serious gun injuries.

Sumaila who sustained the injuries was among people who were present at the ceremony before the incident occurred.

According to information gathered, there was near bloodshed but for the intervention of the police.

However, the police according to our information has taken over the issue and is conducting investigations into the matter.

However, persons involved have given their reports and statements to the police to aide them in their investigations.

When the District Police Commander DCOP Tetteh Yehornu was contacted on the issue, he confirmed the incident band said, the incident occurred on Sunday 4:30m when people from the Abola house led by the Asafoatse Nii Agyeman Quarshie came to the palace with a cow and two bottles of Schnapps to perform a Christened Ritual.

He indicated that in the process of the ritual, loyalists to the Ga Mantse Nii Adama Latse also stormed the premises in bid to destruct the process which resulted in some confrontations and scuffles, and gun fires.

According to the Police Commander the people from the Abola house were believed to be armed and assisted by land guards.

DCOP Yehornu said the scuffle led to the shooting of one Sumaila who butchered the cow for the ritual.

He indicated that five persons have been arrested from the Abola house including the Asafoatse Nii Quarshie and are assisted the police in their investigations.
