The Ghana Veterinary Medical Association (GVMA) has congratulated Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, the President-elect, on his resounding victory in the 2016 elections.
In a press statement copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) and signed by Dr Fenteng Danso, President of the Association, said “we admire the determination and perseverance, which were exhibited’’ during the campaign and subsequent election of the Nana Akufo Addo “.
The Association pledged to make their expertise available towards the realisation of the New Patriotic Party’s manifesto goals in the area of livestock and fisheries development.
It said the livestock sector including fisheries and poultry is an important integral component of agriculture in Ghana and plays a multifaceted role in providing livelihood support to many Ghanaians the in rural areas.
They appealed to the in-coming government to address the slow pace of growth and development of the livestock sub-sector to reduce the importation of frozen meat, poultry and fish into the country.
Following the “the numerous challenges facing the livestock sector, we call for the implementation of the recent livestock policy documents and strategies to unearth the full potential of the sector,’’ it added.
Members of the GVMA also pledge to “offer their technical and professional expertise for the positive growth and transformation of the livestock sector”.
“We pray that the Almighty grants you wisdom, patience and fortitude to enable you make Ghana great and strong,” the statement said.
