Gyan, who has been struggling with fitness issues after suffering a hamstring injury in a league match in September, returned to play the entire duration of the match.

Sun Shilin got the opener for the visitors in the 24th-minute, but the host equalised courtesy a goal from Dario Conca in the 33rd-minute, with Cai Huikang getting the winner at the 45th-minute to give Shanghai SIPG a deserved 2-1 win.

Asamoah Gyan took to twitter to announce they had booked a place in next season’s Asian Champions league and expressed gratitude for overcoming the injury setback.

“We live to fight better next season” he said, as his club missed the league triumph to Guangzhou Evergrande FC by just two points.

Gyan joined Shanghai SIPG in June 2015 from Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

He made 10 appearances for his Chinese club and scored four goals.

Gyan’s return from injury is also a boost for the Black Stars as they prepare to play Comoros Islands in a 2018 World Cup qualifier later this month.
