The aL-hAJJ?s sources at the seat of government disclosed that Haruna?s imminent elevation follows recommendations and pressures from Ghana?s development partners, including the Bretton Wood institutions on the Mahama administration to do so.
The much awaited reshuffle by President John Mahama which will see some senior members of government leave office is expected to be made public before this weekend.
Our sources indicate that the Tamale South Member of Parliament?s sterling performance at the Communication Ministry under the late President Mills and his successful handling so far, of the Trade and Industry Ministry under President Mahama has won him the admiration of Ghana?s overseas ?friends?.
Ghana?s developing partners include the European Union, United Kingdom, United States, Canada and Japan among others.
Though Mr Iddrisu is not known to have any background in economics and finance, his vast knowledge on all facets of the economy added to his background in Sociology and law, many believed will aid him perform magic to turn around the ailing Ghanaian economy which is currently reeling under severe difficulties.
Sources at the seat of government disclosed to this paper that though President John Dramani Mahama prefers Haruna remained at the Trade and Industry ministry since trade in modern international relations has become the key to unlocking challenges facing many economies globally, convincing strong case is being put forward for the Tamale South MP to take up the Finance portfolio.
The tango over Haruna Iddrisu, according to Flag Staff House sources, has arisen as a result of President John Mahama?s decision to finally carry out the expected but often postponed reshuffle of his government to bring economic liberation he promised Ghanaians in the 2012 campaign.
Ghana?s economy has in recent times been faced with difficulties resulting in free fall of the cedi against major trading currencies. This has forced many members of the ruling National Democratic Congress including leading members to be piling pressure on President Mahama to axe the Finance Minister, Seth Terkper.
In direct response on calls on him to remove his Finance Minister, President Mahama openly reposed outmost confidence in Mr Terkper and said he was doing a fine job to turn things around at the Finance ministry.
The President is all set making public the much expected and talk-about reshuffle list in the coming days.
Some of the ministries to be affected, The aL-hAJJ has gathered included the Local Government and Rural Development, Agriculture, and Environment Science and Technology among others.
Sources say some Ministers would also swap positions and in like manner some deputy ministers will be booted out while others will be asked to switch positions.
