Haruna Iddrisu, the Member of Parliament for Tamale South and former Minority Leader, has criticized the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration, calling it the worst government in Ghana’s Fourth Republic.
Iddrisu attributed the label to the economic hardships and mismanagement under the current government.
Addressing supporters at the campaign launch for the Asawase MP candidate, Muntaka Mohammed, in the Ashanti Region on August 4, 2024, Iddrisu emphasized the need for vigilance to prevent electoral fraud and ensure fair results in the upcoming December elections.
Iddrisu expressed confidence that the NDC would secure substantial support from the Ashanti Region, noting that the NPP’s underperformance in the region has created an opportunity for a shift in favour of the opposition.
He highlighted the strategic goal for the NDC to clinch the presidency by capturing just over 35% of the votes in Ashanti.
He praised Muntaka Mohammed for his past contributions and his role as a strong advocate for Ghana’s people and the Muslim community in Parliament.
Iddrisu urged voters to support Mohammed and President John Dramani Mahama for a return to leadership, promising that positive achievements marked Mahama’s previous term.
Iddrisu argued that Mahama’s P’s “claiNPP’sat Ashanti is their stronghold and is only valid if they deliver on their promises.”
“Ashanti will only remain with the NPP if businesses thrive and unemployment is low. Given the current state of affairs, we are optimistic that Asanteman will support John Dramani Mahama and the NDC.”
He reinforced the importance of Muntaka Mohammed’sMohammed’s and the NDC’s commNDC’st to reform and progress, asserting that the current government has failed to meet expectations and must be replaced.
