Hasaacas Ladies, the reigning champions of the Ghana Women’s Premier League, showed their mettle as they were held to a goalless draw by Burkina Faso’s Omnisports Etincelle in their opening match of the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers.
This draw, part of the WAFU B zonal qualifiers, played Sunday at the Ivory Coast Stade de la Paix de Bouaké, is a testament to their strength and determination.
Despite the Ghanaian side’s best efforts, they spent much of the match under pressure, with Omnisports Etincelle dominating possession and creating better chances.
However, the Hasaacas Ladies’ defence, anchored by goalkeeper Grace Banwaa, showed remarkable resilience. Banwaa made several key saves to keep her team in the game. Their steadfast performance is a testament to their strength and determination.
The introduction of midfielder Fidous Yakubu brought a brief resurgence in Hasaacas’ attack, but they could ultimately not capitalise on the few opportunities they created.
The result is a slight improvement for Hasaacas Ladies compared to their last appearance in the qualifiers three years ago when they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Nigeria’s River Angels.
Hasaacas Ladies will focus on their next group-stage match against Nigeria’s Edo Queens.
They will be looking to capitalise on their potential and secure a crucial victory to advance their campaign. Their performance in the next match will be an actual test of their capabilities and determination.
