Kim Grant, head coach of Accra Hearts of Oak, has expressed confidence in match officials for the upcoming Ghana Football Association (GFA) Normalisation Committee Special Cup.

The 46 year-old, in a pre-match conference ahead of their first match in the competition against Dreams FC at home said, the referees were in a new situation, which could put some pressure on them, but was confident they would deliver.

Coach Grant pleaded with the media and supporters alike not to be overly critical of their performance, because they could make genuine mistakes.

He noted that, he understood the referee’s situation and therefore would not have any issue with their performance.

“I’m sure there would be lot of scrutiny on them. I believe that they would do very well. I think the media and supporters need to be a little bit patient with them as well.

“But I’m not going to have issues with them at all, because they would make mistakes and they are only humans,” he said.

One key area of concern after the Number 12 exposé was officiating, which became a major focus of attention during the infamous documentary.

Considering the number of experienced referees caught up in the documentary and subsequently banned, there was the urgent need to restore integrity and confidence in officiating by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Normalization Committee (NC).

The GFA NC in its quest to protect the sanctity of refereeing in Ghana and restore public confidence, requested assistance from Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) for a referees integrity training, which was held on January, 27 in Sogakope, in preparation for the official return of domestic football in Ghana.

The referees who have made the FIFA list and had undergone further integrity training were expected to live above reproach and adhere strictly to the tenets of their profession and the beautiful game.
