Hearts of Oak clinched the 2024 Gbese Mantse Homowo Charity Peace Cup with a dramatic 8-7 penalty shootout victory over Kpando Heart of Lions, following a 1-1 draw in regular time.

Ga Gbese Mantse Nii Ayi-Bonte II ceremonially kicked off the match, which featured a high level of skill and competitive spirit from both teams.

Hearts of Oak, managed by Aboubakar Ouattara, showcased a refreshed lineup with eight new signings, including goalkeeper Benjamin Asare and striker Kwame Boateng.

Kpando Heart of Lions, under the leadership of coach Bashiru Hayford, took an early lead with Kwadwo Obeng Jr. scoring against his former club just three minutes into the game.

Hearts of Oak struggled to convert their opportunities in the first half despite several chances.

In a dramatic turn of events, Hearts of Oak equalized with just two minutes remaining in regulation time through a goal by substitute Mohammed Hussein, levelling the score at 1-1.

The match proceeded to a penalty shootout, where Hearts of Oak emerged victorious after a tense series of penalties, securing the Homowo Cup.

This victory provides a promising start for Hearts of Oak, which is eager to build on its success following a challenging 14th-place finish last season.

The Phobians will look to carry this momentum into the new season, which begins next month.
