Heavy rains displace 1,200 people in Gushegu northern region

Flood victims homeless

Torrential rains in the Gushegu district of the Northern region have rendered about 1,200 people homeless.

Properties including school blocks and private buildings worth thousands of Ghana cedis have also been destroyed.

One of such affected properties is a clinic at Naabuli, a farming community in Gushegu where about 800 alleged witches are camping.

The District Chief Executive for Gushegu, Alhaji Alhassan Fuseini said about five farming communities have been affected.

He said, “About five villages within the Konkomba communities have been affected and we have written to the National Coordinator for NADMO to assist the assembly with relief items to alleviate the plight of the victims.”

“Our assessment has put the figure at 1,200 people who have been displaced with 70% of them being women and children.”
