Heavy rains which hit different parts of Rwanda have left five people killed since the beginning of this month, the Rwandan government said on Friday.

1,170 houses and 892 hectares of crops were also destroyed, said Rwanda’s Ministry of Disaster Management and Refugees Affairs in a statement.

“Other destroyed stuffs include local streets, livestock, water supply lines and bridges,” it said.

According to the ministry, affected people in different districts have received emergency support, including non-food items such as cooking pans, blankets, soaps, hygienic tools and other various kitchen utensils.

The ministry also advised the public to prevent disasters by fixing and knitting roofs of houses and prepare water canals to make sure they can resist heavy rains. Enditem
