The Chief Executive Officer for Kum Yadie Bitters Herbal Centre, a health facility located at Takoradi (Amono Road) Dr. Paul Adjei Domfeh has slapped government over the failure on its part in recognizing the herbal industry as an effective TOOL in addressing majority of the health challenges of Ghanaian citizens.
The reason for the fallen standard currently witnessed by herbal industry in Ghana??Dr. Paul Adjei Domfeh disclosed in an interview with The Moment as the mass shift of government?s attention and endorsement of orthodox medicines over that of locally manufactured herbal medicines exemplified in the area of billions of Ghana Cedis,??pumped by officials in the importation of foreign drugs which if had been channelled into the latter would have shot the industry into an international standard after the other of Chinese and Indian herbal medicines.
Locally manufactured herbal medicines he stressed, are far advanced in their healing potent but consequent to government?s decline in helping address some of their challenges so as to hit the height of global endorsement, majority of even the indigence have long underrated it amid the thoughts that they are fetish in origin and not prepared under hygienic conditions.
The former, he indicated, as a rag-bag of synthetic theories propagated by the ignoramus, defending that herbal medicine is rooted in culture even before the rise of orthodox medicines in the country. ?This is what our ancestors always lived by and they were always in a good state of health with a mark of a long life span. There is nothing like fetish. It is all about natural herbs,? he roared.
The reason for the periodic astronomical rise in complex diseases in Ghana he indicated, is the low level of? herbal medicines intake and that many are denied knowledge of the fact that medicines derived from herbs are ten times potent than orthodox drugs.
?Orthodox drugs government knowing very well has many side effects on the health of any user due to their chemical constituents has failed to enlist herbal medicines among medicines prescribed by medics to patients at various health institutions.?
?There is no single occasion on record where a doctor of any health facility ever directed a patient to administer herbal medicine to a diagnosed ailment? he mentioned adding that our intellectuals are defrauding the nation in the use herbal medicines.
Dr. Domfeh on the latter thought punched government to have not well assisted industry players financially to make purchase of scientific machinery and other processing equipments.
This he noted has brought about the unhygienic means adopted by some players in the preparation of their medicines since they have no other financial option than to apply any other method they stumble upon.
He challenged government to grant long term loans to all herbal medicine dealers as a financial support, organize workshops on regional basis to build on the knowledge of players and establish more herbal centers across the length and breadth of the country. This he stressed as a positive approach which will go far in balancing the equation of herbal and orthodox medicines than government focusing on only on one side.
