Maradona Adjei Yeboah, the resilient force in the Hiplife music scene known as Guru NKZ, has taken a bold step by filing a petition against the University of Ghana’s Student Representative Council (SRC) Electoral Commission. This action follows his disqualification from the SRC presidential race, a decision he is not willing to accept without a fight.

Guru NKZ and his running mate, Jeffery Adu Yeboah, were disqualified due to their non-resident status, which was deemed to contravene Article 30 of the SRC’s electoral regulations.

This article stipulates that candidates must be campus residents and eligible to contest for a Junior Common Room (JCR) position within their hall. During the vetting process, Guru NKZ and Yeboah acknowledged that they did not reside in any hall, leading to disqualification.

In response, Guru NKZ’s legal team has submitted a petition to the Electoral Commission and the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs, requesting a review of the disqualification decision.

An interim injunction has been filed with the Judicial Board, seeking to temporarily halt the electoral process until a proper hearing and resolution can be achieved.

“We will ensure that there is no discrimination against any student, whether resident or non-resident, whether able or with special needs, whether pursuing a first degree or a postgraduate diploma, whether from Korle-Bu, City Campus, Distance Education, or any regional learning centre,” Guru NKZ passionately stated.

The Hiplife icon remains optimistic that the Judicial Board will conduct a fair hearing and deliver a just decision regarding his petition, expressing his confidence in the legal process.
