The Ho Teaching Hospital will soon undergo a major expansion with the addition of a 500-bed facility, a development expected to significantly improve healthcare services and establish the hospital as a medical tourism destination in the Volta Region.

Currently operating beyond its original 240-bed capacity, the hospital has faced mounting pressure on its resources while striving to maintain quality care. The expansion project, confirmed during a working visit by Parliament’s Select Committee on Health, addresses this critical need for increased capacity.

A committee member emphasized the government’s commitment to timely completion of the project, stating it would “meet growing healthcare demands and attract patients across the subregion.” The new facility represents a strategic investment in regional health infrastructure, aligning with national goals to develop world-class medical services for both local and international patients.

The parliamentary visit forms part of ongoing oversight efforts to evaluate healthcare facilities nationwide. When completed, the expanded Ho Teaching Hospital will not only relieve current overcrowding but also position Ghana’s eastern region as an emerging destination for quality medical care in West Africa.

This development comes as Ghana seeks to capitalize on the global medical tourism market, estimated to be worth over $50 billion annually. The upgraded facility will enhance specialized care offerings while improving access for the Volta Region’s growing population, marking a significant step in decentralizing quality healthcare services across the country.
