Holy Child Sisters give girls in UER Vocational training

Reverend Sisters of the Society of Holy Child Jesus, have started training young girls in the Upper East Region, in vocational skills, to curb rural and urban migration and to enable them earn income.

The initiation of the project is to mark the 175th year anniversary of the congregation globally, 90 years in the African province, 75 years in Ghana and 50 years in the Catholic Diocese of Navrongo -Bolgatanga.

Reverend Sister Letitia Awuni, the head of the Holy Child sisters in the Navrongo Bolgatanga Catholic Diocese made this known at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Bolgatanga as part of the 50th anniversary celebration of the congregation in the Parish.

Briefing parishioners at Mass, the Reverend Sister who received her formation in the Novitiate in Nigeria in 1990, said the Order worked for the integral human development of all, enabling all individuals to reach their full potential.

She noted that globally the 175th year anniversary of the congregation, its 90 years in the African province, 75 years in Ghana and 50 years in the Diocese of Navrongo- Bolgatanga was worth celebrating hence the need to support young girls to reach their full potential.

She said the African Province through the Nigerian Novitiate aimed to support and help people to pray and therefore the choice of the Diocese for the new project to train young girls and equip them with skills.

According to her, 67 young girls who were engaged in menial jobs in Kumasi had returned to the region and started undergoing training in areas such as dress making, weaving of local cloths, and confectionary among others.

Rev. Letitia Awuni requested for prayer support to enable them carry out their mission and noted that the new project was for God and for all and stressed that “the harvest is plenty but the labourers are few”.

To commemorate the quadruple anniversaries of the congregation, the trainees exhibited handworks whilst a cake was also cut to grace the milestone achieved.
