More fact have emerged on how the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), lawmakers pulled the rug of their APC counterparts who had besieged them for their support in the just concluded National Assembly leadership elections.
Sources who were in the know of the schemings that resulted in the emergence of Senator Bukola Saraki and Hon Yakubu Dogara, told Daily Times that “24 hours to the elections, the APC? House of Representatives members and Senators had turned the hotel room of immediate past governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Godswill Akpabio,at Hilton, into a Mecca of sort, soliciting the support of the former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) Governors Forum for their ambitions.”
Akpabio, it was further learnt, had earlier in the week, led his colleagues into a meeting with Senator Saraki, where they all agreed to deliver their bloc votes to Saraki and Dogara.
It was also gathered that, Akpabio and his colleagues were taken aback that it took the APC lawmakers almost a month to realize the relevance and importance of the PDP lawmakers in the emergence of their leaders.
Hon Gbajabiamila was said to have appealed to senator Akpabio to prevail on members of the House from the PDP to cast their votes for him, just as he was said to have listed the privileges that was awaiting them should they elect him as the Speaker of the House.
Daily Times reliably gathered that No sooner that Gbajabiamila leftHilton Hotel than Senator Ahmed Lawan came calling. He was also said to have appealed to the former governor to rally his party members for him, promising that his Senate presidency, would take special interest in what happens in the south south ego-political zone.
There and then, Senator Akpabio was said to have assured them that he would try his best to rally PDP members to support their ambition, but with a request that ” please when you become our leaders’ do? remember me in your kingdom.”
The duo were said to have left the Hilton Hotel room of the former governor in high spirit.
