Huawei Technologies is poised to unveil a new artificial intelligence chip, the Ascend 910C, designed to compete with Nvidia’s offerings in the Chinese market.

This move comes in response to US sanctions restricting Nvidia’s sales of its advanced chips, including the H100, to Chinese customers.

According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, Huawei has been testing the Ascend 910C with Chinese internet and telecommunications firms in recent weeks.

The company claims that the 910C matches the performance of Nvidia’s H100, despite the US restrictions that have limited Nvidia’s H100 and led to the introduction of less powerful alternatives such as the H20 for China.

Huawei has indicated it plans to ship the Ascend 910C as early as October. Potential customers for the new chip include major Chinese companies like ByteDance, Baidu, and China Mobile.

Initial negotiations suggest that orders for the 910C could exceed 70,000 units, amounting to approximately $2 billion.

Huawei did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the new chip or its anticipated launch.
