Huawei Wins Access Bank UNICEF Charity Polo



Campaigns for honours in the ongoing Access Bank UNICEF Charity Shield International Polo Tournament saw Huawei upstaging favourites Mar Air in the final to win the prestigious Access Bank Cup.

The Mohammed Babangida? powered Huawei? who joined the race for the event?s second biggest trophy, jumped into the lead? in the? round robin face off? after a slim 6-51/2 victory in their opening game? decided and held on to earn their first ever Access Bank Cup title.

The Access Bank Cup final was one the most competitive in years as the two teams went neck-to neck till the third chukka of the five chukkas clash, when Huawei came back from three goals down to grab a 5-4 lead with two chukkas to spare.

Watched by a capacity crowd that included members of the National Assembly, traditional rulers and thousands of polo enthusiasts, Max Air dug deep in the final chukkas to revive their hopes, but was only able to score two goals as the resilience Huawei struck twice through Bello Buba and Mohammed Babangida to clinch a sensational 6-5 victory.

?This is unbelievable. As late comers nobody gave us a chance, but by sheer determination and the overwhelming support of our fans, we made it to the final and produced a stunning performance that overhauled the defending champions and secured us the glittering Access Bank Cup,? declared Fifth Huawei Captain, Babangida.

Babangida, commended Access Bank Plc for providing the Charity Shield platform for the teams to showcase their talent, the fans for their support and dedicated their first Access Bank Cup title to their teeming less privileged children across the country, whose plights fired Huawei throughout their victorious campaign.

The Zonal Head Commercial Banking Division of Access Bank, Joseph Ikpaanyam? and the MagajinZazzau, AlhajiNuhu who cheered every moment of the exciting Access Bank Cup final, presented the glittering Access Bank Cup to the winners and decorated the Max Air that finished runners-up.

Ikpaanyam who expressed delight at the huge turnout for the Access Bank Cup final, congratulates the winners and the runners-up, Max Air and urged others who could not make it to the final to redouble their efforts and prepare well ahead of the 2016 edition.
